“High Fidelity and the Pursuit of Perfection”

Posted on November 10, 2024 by admin

This article is based on this dutch article of Martijn Benders On that slender stem stood the first Amanita cap of the year, which we were going to enjoy with Veer’s niece and nephew. Veer showed the dried cap, and demonstratively, I took a nibble. The guests watched in bewilderment, but after a brief explanation,…

This article is based on this Dutch article of Martijn Benders At the start of this century, when I first laid eyes on the poem *Tot Besluit* by Menno Wigman, I thought, hey, isn’t that a poem by Roethke? *I have known the inexorable sadness of pencils, Neat in their boxes, dolor of pad and…

The Enigma of Baudet and Wigman

Posted on November 5, 2024November 5, 2024 by admin

This article is based on this Dutch article of Martijn Benders — **The Mystery of Baudet and Wigman** Why does it always have to be Martinus solving all these mysteries, I wonder aloud sometimes. At this point, I have Beurskens on his knees over email. He sputters and stammers after I mention that Marc Reugebrink…

Translating Trakl

Posted on November 4, 2024 by admin

This article is based on this dutch article of Martijn Benders I asked ChatGPT whether it found my translation better than the original: Your version of “Evening Melancholy” certainly offers its own, appealing quality and captures a unique atmosphere that fits well with Trakl’s original. While Trakl’s poem in German uses more abstract, sometimes shadowy…

Gentle Lullabies of Motherly Love

Posted on November 3, 2024 by admin

This article is based on this Dutch article of Martijn Benders Beautiful Halloween poems, right? It’s fascinating to see how more and more people turn their front yards into eerie doll-themed parties, even in this neighborhood. Apparently, this sparks quite a bit of complaints from the Christian community: Hopefully, people will also find their way…

Erik Menkveld’s Review

Posted on November 1, 2024 by admin

This article is based on this Dutch article of Martijn Benders ### The Review of Erik Menkveld In the court documents, I mention a review I wrote in 2006 about Erik Menkveld, who was then an employee at the Van Oorschot publishing house. I did this because Van Oorschot had announced a ‘review competition,’ and…

Schrama’s Specters

This article is based on this Dutch article of Martijn Benders Originally, I had also included a piece in the left-hand poem about the failed attempt to realize MDMA as a medicine for severe trauma; forget it: it remains banned. So, people are continually inflicted with severe trauma and denied something known as a remedy…

This article is based on this Dutch article of Martijn Benders ## Here comes the maverick Probably the track on the album with the most ‘hit potential,’ although I always find that quite dubious, especially in times when the hit as a phenomenon has essentially become extinct. Here comes the maverick, oh yeah Here comes…

Castles Get Kicked in the Bricks each Summer

Let’s face it: some backpacks just carry your stuff. This one tells your entire life philosophy in one ridiculous, multilingual joke. Imagine strolling into a museum, a bus stop, or your ex's new wedding—with a bag that declares, in ten languages, that castles are always the losers of summer.

Why? Because deep down, you know:

  • Tourists always win.
  • History has a sense of humor.
  • And you, my friend, are not carrying your lunch in just any nylon sack—you’re carrying it in a medieval meltdown on your shoulders.

This backpack says:

  • “I’ve been to four castles, hated three, and got kicked out of one for asking where the dragons were.”
  • “I appreciate heritage sites, but I also think they could use a bit more slapstick.”
  • “I’m cute, I’m moopish, and I will absolutely picnic on your parapet.”

It’s absurd.
It’s philosophical.
It holds snacks.

In short, it’s not just a backpack—it’s a mobile monument to glorious collapse.

And honestly? That’s what summer’s all about.

Philosophy thirts

Feeling surveilled? Alienated by modernity? Accidentally started explaining biopolitics at brunch again? Then it’s time to proudly declare your loyalties (and your exhaustion) with our iconic “I’m with Fuckold” shirt.

This tee is for those who’ve:

  • Said “power is everywhere” in a non-BDSM context.
  • Tried to explain Discipline and Punish to their cat.
  • Secretly suspect the panopticon is just their neighbour with binoculars.

Wearing this shirt is a cry of love, rebellion, and post-structural despair. It says:
“Yes, I’ve read Foucault. No, I will not be okay.”

Stay tuned for more philosophical shirts and backpacks, as we at Benders are working on an entire collection that will make even the ghost of Hegel raise an eyebrow.
