Benders has published twenty-six books, eighteen of which are in Dutch. He has been named one of the greatest talents of his time by critics like Komrij and Gerbrandy. He has also written three philosophical works, one of which is in English about the Amanita Muscaria, the Fly Agaric. Publishing on the international stage of The Philosophical Salon, he has also gained international recognition as one of the most remarkable thinkers from the Netherlands. Lately he has also been active in music with two formations: Berry Lee Berry with 'The Sound of Wonty Love' as a debut album and 'The Stoss', a band he does with Dieter Adam who have released 'Höllenhelle Eisenbahn' in Januar 2025. He also has a podcast in german named 'Literatur Auf Drei'.

Pssst, don’t tell anyone, but this ‘Maarten Boenders’ with his novel ‘De Dienst’ is a literary chess match of the highest order. Is Benders behind it? But that seems a bit too obvious, wouldn’t you say? I would have gone to more trouble choosing a better-suited name. But then, who is it? Could it be De Dienst itself that picked up the pen—maybe to shield the writers from the wind? In any case, rumor has it in the literary world that this novel is slated for release in 2025.
