“Poems to Read in the Dark” is a collection of poetry that focuses on the darker sides of life. One of the poems that appears in the collection is about the death of Prince, the famous musician. In the poem, Prince appears behind the huge paywall that the media have erected for ordinary people.
On the one hand, they set up that huge pay wall, and on the other, they started spreading talk that only their information was trustworthy. That everything on the internet could not be trusted and that only by paying them could you still be a reliable citizen in society.
This strategy was supposed to compensate for a rapidly declining base of paying customers, but it did not actually work at all, and resulted in a highly politicised and torn society, full of people all questioning each other’s trustworthiness.
That people don’t see that this was all set up from behind the media’s conference tables is unfortunate. If you are one of those reliable guys who has to pay for his reliable information, then perhaps it is best to ignore my work.
